Installation steps for ruby on ubuntu linux.

Before Installing Ruby on Ubuntu Check following libraries:

you can install them from terminal or software center.

1. openssl
2. readline-common
3. libreadline6-dev
4. libedit2
5. coreutils
6. libssl0.9.8
7. zlib
8. zlib1g-dev
9. zlib1g-dbg
10.zlib1g
11.libssl-dev
12.libopenssl - ruby
13.libreadline6
14.libyaml-dev

=>libmysql-ruby
=>libmysqlclient-dev
=>mysql-server
=>mysql-client
=================

Install Ruby on Ubuntu:

1.  Download Source from http://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/
2.  Extract => tar zxpvf ----
3.  ./configure --prefix=/usr
4.  make
5.  sudo make install

Install Ruby Gems

1.  Download tar file from http://rubygems.org/
2.  Extract
3.  run command => sudo ruby setup.rb

Install Rails:

1. run command from Terminal => sudo gem install rails

Some important gems need to install:

1. mysql
2. mongrel
3. mongrel_cluster

some important gem commands:
1. sudo gem update
2. gem search  => search all local gems
3. gem search --remote  => search remote
4. gem help
5. gem env  => Gem Environment
